On September 11th, Johnny VanZant of Lynyrd Skynyrd received a call from a close friend. The call was from a buddy of his who was working on a rooftop in Manhattan. He told of how he heard a loud explosion and looked up to see the first of two planes slam into the World Trade Center. As he looked around at his many co-workers, tears were streaming down their faces. As his friend continued to talk, VanZant jotted down the words "the day America cried". In a musical call-to-arms, VanZant then contacted Grammy Award-winner Jim Peterik, and entrusted him in helping to make a vision come to life in a song. After three days and nights of long-distance collaboration, that song was born. The proceeds of this song along with a 10 song CD filled with songs of hope will go to benefit the 911 Relief Fund.
